aTube Catcher includes whisper.cpp, an offline build of OpenAI's Whisper speech-recognition model. Your files are processed on your computer and are not uploaded to a server.

Save the result as an SRT or VTT subtitle file, as plain text, or burn the subtitles straight into a copy of the video. You can also turn on "Transcribe after download" to subtitle videos as soon as they finish downloading.

Platforms and limits

  • Windows and macOS include the transcription engine. The Linux build doesn't include it yet.
  • Each Whisper model is downloaded the first time you use it, from about 75 MB (Tiny) to about 3 GB (Large).
  • Larger models are more accurate but slower, especially on computers without a fast processor.
  • Separating speakers (diarization) is a Pro feature.
